Georgia's National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) has officially assumed responsibility as principal recipient of Global Fund resources, signing an agreement with the Fund in early May to extend grant GEO-H-GPIC.

Somalia has a major burden of multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), rivalling that of the most-affected countries in Asia. The OIG says that is has uncovered “credible and substantial evidence” that two suppliers for programmes supported by Global Fund grants in Georgia worked together to steer contracts to each other, and that they were assisted in this effort by several staff members of the principal recipient (PR).

The current conflict in Syria has severely affected implementation of Global Fund grants in that country. Adjustments have been made and one grant has been reprogrammed to achieve the desired results, according to Fabien Lefrancois, a spokesman for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the principal recipient (PR) for the grants.

I was recently invited by a university in the UK to serve as a visiting fellow for most of this year while conducting research on the Global Fund. I have to raise my own funding for this project, so the only advantage of the fellowship is that it provides a label to hang round my neck. But that’s exactly what I wanted, so I accepted with thanks.
The Global Fund Board has approved Phase 2 funding for a Round 2 malaria rolling continuation channel grant in Namibia. The principal recipient (PR) for this grant is the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) in the Ministry of Health and Social Services. In approving the Phase 2 funding, the Board was acting on recommendations from the Grants Renewal Panel in the Secretariat.
