What is the Global Fund Board meeting about? Youā€™ll get some of the answers here. In the run-up to the Global Fund Board meeting towards the end of this month, we analyse some of the voluminous documents that form the dossier for it. These include strategic performance and the working of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM). We also look at the Joint Learning Program in Africa as health financing becomes the new imperative, with shrinking international development assistance. One of the latterā€™s unfortunate impacts can be seen on the stalling of the malaria eradication drive and the YaoundĆ© Declaration, is one of the responses to it that we cover.

With the Global Fund Board meeting this month, we bring the Agenda and get into the details of what it all means actually. Then we do a deep dive into some of the reportage from it. Some of the reports we examine include Strategic Performance Report for 2017-2022 including Key Performance Indicators at end 2023. This is followed-up by the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM), divided into articles on CCM positioning and CCM engagement with civil society, communities and key populations.

Then comes news from the field on the meeting of the Joint Learning Agenda program, which brought together civil society groups and global health initiatives to promote health financing and Universal Health Coverage.

The YaoundƩ Declaration, by health ministers from 11 high-prevalence African countries, marked a renewed commitment to eliminating malaria deaths on the continent. But is the ambitious framework doable is what we explore. This article is translated by Amida Kariburyo, from an article from our French counterpart Observateur du Fonds Mondial (OFM).

And any thoughts about which aspect in the global health initiative sector youā€™d like to see covered in our newsletter are always welcome and weā€™d really appreciate suggestions on who can pen an article on it!
